Whether you’re coordinating with a friend or discussing something work-related, texting is often the best way to go. In a world where we’re constantly inundated with notifications, it’s important to be able to quickly and easily respond to the ones that matter most. That’s why Apple created Tapback – a feature that allows you to react to a text message with just a tap.
In this blog post, we will discuss how to react to a text message on an iPhone, using Tapback.
What Is Tapback?
Tapback is a handy little feature on the iPhone that allows you to quickly and easily respond to messages with an emoji on the iPhone. They’re a great way to add some personality to your conversations, and can help you communicate more efficiently with your friends and family.
Tapback is available on all devices that support iOS 10 or later. You can use it in iMessages, Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Telegram and so on. You can also use it in group chats.

What Are the Reactions in Tapback?
In the iMessage section, there are six different reactions that iPhone-owners can now select from to quickly express themselves in response to a text.
- A heart
- A thumb up
- A thumb down
- A ‘Haha’
- An exclamation point
- A question mark

How Do You Like or Love an iMessage Using Tapback?
Here are the steps to react to a text message using Tapback:
Step 1: Locate the text message.
First you need to open the conversation in iMessage and pinpoint the text message which you want to add reactions to.
Step 2: Hold the message to see the reaction pop-up.
Once you locate the message, hold the blue bubble message or the photo you want to respond to a little longer. There will be a new popup bubble with 6 different reactions as mentioned above.
Step 3: Tap the reaction to respond to the messages.
Tap the one you want to use, and the reaction will appear in the corner of the messages (the right corner of other people’s messages, the left corner of your original message) instead of appearing as a new bubble message in the thread.
In a group chat, you can also see who is reacting to your message by tapping on the reactions bubble.
Once the reaction is added, there will be a notification to other people in the group chat, such as: Person A laughed at/loved/liked “your_message.”

Step 4: Remove or Change the Reaction
If you want to unsend or to replace the reaction, just hold the bubble message or the photo, and one-click to the reaction. There will be a notification to other people in the chat thread, such as: Person A removed a like from “your_message.”

Conclusion
Beside using emojis from your keyboards, or using words like LOL, LMAO, NO, YES to express your excitement, surprise or disagreement, Tapback is a great way to show your friends and family that you’ve seen their message and are responding.
